Gotham Awards is to Independent films what Golden Globes are to big-budget Hollywood flicks. Gotham Awards 2015 was held on Monday, 30 November, in New York City, which is considered to be the home of independent films.

The night was especially special for Indian fans of comedy as "Shugs and Fats", the Youtube comedy series created by Indian-origin comedians Radhi Vaz and Nadia Manzoor, won in the "Breakthrough Series – Short Form" category. The series centres on a Brooklyne-based Hijabi women, who strives to adapt the Western lifestyle.

"Shugs and Fats" is a funny, loud-mouthed and endearing commentary on social conformity. It is returning with Season 3 on 11 January, 2016, but ahead of that, watch out for the launch of Vaz's new book "Unladylike: A Memoir" in December.
