A new season of Discovery Channel's "Gold Rush" will premiere on 16 October with a two-hour special that will see the Hoffman crew facing some hurdles as they continue to mine gold.

Like in the previous season, the Hoffmans, Parker Schnabel and the Beets family will return with their crews in this new episode. Three generations of Hoffman men will set out to double last year's gold haul, and it won't be an easy task.

As the season progresses, we'll see some of the hurdles each of these families go through as they mine gold.

Parker will face major trouble in running his operations without his foreman Gene Cheeseman, who quit Schnabel's crew last season and joined the Beets. Schnabel will be forced to replace his trusted men with rookies, and it remains to be seen how this new partnership grows.

Sadly, that's not the only bad news for Schnabel. The season premiere will see Schnabel being asked to vacate the claim by his landlord.

The premiere episode will see the Hoffmans having some trouble with water. This problem will be solved when Dave Turin brings out their biggest pump to get water out of their territory. Logan Pierce, in the meantime, will discover another problem when he realises that he broke through some ice while landing the equipment underwater.

The official synopsis of the premiere episode reads.

In the Season 6 premiere, Parker gets off to a disastrous start when he loses key crew and Tony orders him off his claim. Meanwhile, Todd sets a massive goal for the new mining season; and Tony reveals big plans to expand his operation.

Season 6 episode 1 of "Gold Rush" will be aired on Friday, 16 October on Discovery Channel. According to the official Facebook page of "Gold Rush", Todd will be available on the social networking platform for a live Q&A at 12pm ET.

Todd also took to his Facebook page on Thursday to pen a special message to fans, saying he was honoured to be a part of the season.

We are so different but the same in a lot of ways. Yes we fight and struggle with our anger. I'm hoping Hunter will follow me and my dad down the ancient path that we have walked. Faith in Christ alone, Family, Gold, Freedom, Guns, to look back with no regrets. To love with his whole heart. To fight to win. To know the sacrifice that men were killed so that we walk free today in America. I love the fans. You will love this season. I'm thankful for even getting this opportunity. Honored.
