Actor George Clooney and his lawyer wife Amal have met with three Syrian refugee families who now live in Berlin. The meeting was arranged by the International Rescue Committee ahead of the fifth anniversary of the start of the Syrian conflict on 15 March.

George Clooney said: It was an honour to meet three Syrian families whose lives have been shattered by war and inspiring to learn that the people of Germany are helping them put their lives back together.

David Miliband, president and CEO of the IRC joined the Clooneys and said: As peace talks hang in the balance, the stories of these families should drive not just humanitarian help, but renewed determination to bring the Syrian war to an end.

A record 60m people are currently displaced worldwide, and millions have become displaced during the Syrian conflict.
