This past week has been a roller-coaster ride for the music industry. Axl Rose joined AC/DC, Rihanna toppled the Beatles' Billboard Hot 100 record, Edward Snowden ventured into electronic music and the legendary Prince passed away. And when it comes to new music releases, we saw a refreshing set of sounds churned out by some of the best artistes/band known today.

"Empty" by Garbage

Alternative rock band Garbage are making a comeback this year with their sixth studio album "Strange Little Birds." Going by the way "Empty," its lead single, sounds, we might just get to listen to something totally unexpected from the album.

"The Pin" by Goo Goo Dolls

Goo Goo Dolls recently shared "The Pin," the third single from their upcoming album "Boxes." Like the album's previously released singles, "The Pin" dwells in the pop rock space while keeping alive the alternative rock/post-grunge sound the band is so well known for.

"Heart of a Dog" by The Kills

"Heart of a Dog" blends minimalistic indie rock with 70s garage rock. It is the second single from The Kills' upcoming record "Ash & Ice."

"Lost Dreamers" by Mutual Benefit

"Lost Dreamers" is like the first sip of a well-made cup of coffee that refreshes you after a hard day's work. It is essentially an emotional lo-fi/indie folk/baroque pop track that serves as the second single from Mutual Benefit's upcoming LP "Skip a Sinking Stone."

"A Change of Heart" by The 1975

"A Change of Heart" is the fifth single from The 1975's second album "I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It." The band recently released a touching black and white music video for the song.

"I'm in Love" by Kygo featuring James Vincent McMorrow

Norway-based DJ and songwriter Kygo has been around since 2007. But it was only 2014 that he started releasing original music. "I'm in Love" is the seventh single from his upcoming debut album "Cloud Nine." It is a deep house/electronica track that features folk singer James Vincent McMorrow in a fresh avatar.

"Say It" by Flume featuring Tove Lo

When you blend Flume's downtempo electronica with Tove Lo's sultry vocals, you get something that's simultaneously fresh, catchy and groovy. "Say It," the third single from Flume's upcoming record "Skin," is exactly that.
