Islamabad, Sep 01 (ANI): Pakistani protesters wielding sticks and throwing stones clashed with police in the centre of Islamabad on Monday after weeks of demonstrations calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif turned violent over the weekend. Despite heavy rain, crowds of protesters tried to break through police lines to push their way to the prime minister's residence. Police responded by firing teargas. Some also broke into the PTV national television's headquarters in Islamabad. A crowd of men stormed into the building after breaking through its gate. Protests led by politician Imran Khan and cleric Tahir ul-Qadri erupted last month and descended into deadly confrontation on Saturday (August 30), with at least three people killed in clashes with police.
