Former woman cricket player from Andhra Pradesh Maddineni Durga Bhavani allegedly committed suicide on Sunday afternoon at her residence in Gunadala, Vijayawada.

Bhavani's brother J Satyanarayana informed the police about the incident after finding her hanging from the ceiling fan at her home at around 3.30 pm, according to One India report.

The body of the 28-year-old was sent to a government hospital for post-mortem. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Machavaram police station and investigations are underway, police officer Guru Praksh said.

The police suspect family issues behind the suicide.

Bhavani was married to physical education teacher of SKPVV Hindu High School Maddineni Satya Prasad, 40, who was also her coach. Bhavani is survived by a three-year-old daughter, according to the Deccan Chronicle.

Bhavani was in the news earlier for her sexual harassment allegations against former Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) secretary V Chamundeshwarnath. She had reportedly filed a case against Chamundeshwarnath, but withdrew it later.
