The next season of popular anime series "Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma" has been officially announced and will be titled "Food Wars: Shokugeki no soma – The Second Plate."

The announcement was made on the official Twitter account of "Food Wars." The tweet also states that Season 2 will be released this year in the summer.

Fans had been waiting eagerly for the next season and their curiosity rose significantly when a promotional trailer for Season 2 was released in December 2015. However, apart from the trailer, no further information was revealed regarding the second season of "Food Wars."

"Food Wars" is undoubtedly one of the most popular manga series in Japan and the anime version has also added to its popularity significantly. It has been included in the list of top 10 anime series of 2015 by Blue Chat.

According to Inquisitr, a total of 157 chapters have been published as of February. Out of which, 147 chapters were included in a total of 17 manga books. However, in the international market, only first 10 books are available, with the 11th one scheduled to release April 5.

The website has reported that all the volumes of "Food Wars" have sold in the hundreds of thousands.

The final episode of "Food Wars" aired Sept. 25, 2015, and was met with critical acclaim both from the fans and critics. The episode ended just after the preliminary round of the Tōtsuki Autumn Election finished, which left the series open for another season.

Since the first season of "Food Wars" was aired on Crunchyroll, there is a significant possibility that Season 2 will also broadcast on the popular anime streaming site.

Sentai Filmworks got the license to stream the series in North America, as a result, "Food Wars" Season 1 was also available on Hulu. The first season is still available for streaming on both Crunchyroll and Hulu.
