Floyd 'Money' Mayweather equalled Rocky Marciano's record of 49-0, as the pound-for-pound king defeated Andre Berto in his farewell fight at MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday. The American won the bout via unanimous decision from the three judges, with the score reading 117-111, 118-110 and 120-108 to defend his WBA/WBC welterweight title.

With it, Mayweather, who had stated his fight against Berto will be his last as a professional, has drawn curtains to his glittering career, where he will leave the sport undefeated. The world's richest athlete has also established himself as one the greatest boxers of all-time.

The much-awaited Mayweather-Berto fight had it all – jabs, upper cuts, punches, exchange of words – including the champion's light steps during the bout in the final round as well. Mayweather, who possesses a shield-like defense, came up with another masterclass performance to help him emerge victorious.

However, one has to praise Berto, who went into the bout as an underdog, for putting up a brave fight against Mayweather, who was confident f a comfortable win right from the start.Coming into the bout 48-0, Mayweather, who was an overall favourite, did not disappoint.

While Mayweather made it look easy, there were moments when Berto caught his opponent napping and scored some punches and quick jabs. However, the match was not close enough in the end.

But, Mayweather did praise Berto for a good fight as he did not give up and came fighting until the final round.

"Andre Berto has heart, a tremendous chin. He wouldn't lay down. It was a good fight," said Mayweather.

Mayweather reiterated the stance of him hanging his gloves, though, he stands a golden chance of breaking Rocky Marciano's record if he decides to fight one last time. But, his decision to retire seems to be as fixed as the northern star.

Mayweather wants to spend his time with his family now, after spending some glorious years inside the ring -- winning everything that is there to be won – and there is nothing more left to be achieved.

"It's my time to hang 'em up. I've been in the sport for 19 years. I've made great investments and I'm financially stable. Records are made to be broken," said Mayweather.

"Maybe we can find another Floyd Mayweather. Now I want to a spend time with my family. I am leaving the sport with all my faculties. I'm still smart, I'm still sharp. I've accomplished everything. There's nothing more to accomplish in the sport. For all the fans who call me TBE, I thank you."
