Srinagar, Sep 05 (ANI): Floods, triggered by heavy rainfall, disrupted normal life in Jammu and Kashmir, submerging vehicles and disrupting flights on Friday. Sixty-five people were killed after heavy rains caused flash floods in Kashmir, including a wedding party on a bus that was swept away, officials said on Thursday (September 04). Authorities declared a disaster alert in the region after two days of heavy rain hit villages across the Kashmir valley, causing the worst flooding in two decades. Heavy rain is expected for the next 48 hours. The state's main river, the Jhelum, and its tributaries are flowing several feet above the danger mark. Residents in Srinagar city said villages were inundated and marooned people were yet to get any government aid. According to local people, there have hardly been any rescue operations yet. Home Minister Rajnath Singh held a meeting in New Delhi to review the flood situation and has dispatched members of the National Disaster Response Force to assist the state government.
