Just a few days back, a Tesla Model X electric SUV reached the Indian shores via Mumbai port. The pictures of arguably the first Model X coming to the Indian subcontinent received a warm welcome form automobile fraternity. However, who imported the Model X well ahead of Tesla Motors' official entry in the country remained a mystery.

Bangalore Mirror reports the first Model X in India belongs to industrialist Prashant Ruia. The tabloid has carried the picture of the business tycoon driving his new vehicle on December 13. The Model X costs USD 120,000 that translates around Rs 75 lakh. With huge import duty added, Ruia must have spent over Rs 1.5 crore to bring his Model X to India.

For the uninitiated, Prashant Ruia is the CEO of the Essar group, a family-run conglomerate headquartered in Mumbai, which has operations in 25 countries and employs 75,000 people in the steel, energy, power, communications, ports and logistics sectors.

Manufactured at the company's production facility at Freemont in the United States, Tesla Model X comes with 413km range with a top speed of 250kmph. The 90D variant is powered by an electric motor developing 259hp of power transmitted to front and rear wheels that can run from 0 to 96.5kmph in 4.8 seconds.

The premium P90D version uses 503hp motor to the rear wheels and the same 259 hp motor to the front wheels. It can run to 96.5kmph in 3.8 seconds. It looks like the imported model of Ruia is P90D version. Reports also claim the business magnate also has an electric charge station built inside his mansion to recharge his electric SUV.
