A huge fire break-out has been reported at Tata Motors' Sanand manufacturing unit in Gujarat around 2.30 p.m. on Thursday. According to initial reports, 12 fire tenders were rushed to the spot after the fire at the plant's food supply unit. No causalities have been reported so far. Evacuation of the employees is underway.

The Sanand unit manufacturers Tata Nano and newly launched Tiago hatchbacks. The plant was set up in 2010. This is the second fire incident that shook the automobile sector of India recently. On May 29 , a fire at Subros Limited plant, the supplier of automotive air-conditioners, led the production halt in both Manesar and Gurgaon plants of Maruti Suzuki. The incident had led to cancels shifts for at least two days at Maruti Suzuki plants and incurred a production loss of nearly 10,000 units. The Indo-Japanese outfit eventually advanced the annual maintenance of both the plants from June 6 to 11.
