The dad who'd rather not be a dad – Homer from The Simpsons

Homer is not always the perfect father figure, but he gets points for trying to build a better life for his wife and children.

Here's Homer's quote on disappointing his children: "I think the saddest day of my life was when I realized I could beat my dad at most things. And Bart experienced that at the age of 4."

The Dad who is a friend - Phil Dunphy Modern Family

Phil is television's goofiest dad, but he is also a dad who wants his children to consider him as their closest friend. Here's a quote from Phil that proves just that:

"I'm the cool dad, that's my thang. I'm hip, I surf the web, I text. LOL: laugh out loud. OMG: oh my god. WTF: why the face. Um, you know, I know all the dances to High School Musical, so— "

The Dad who is the king of insults - Red Forman That 70s Show

Red Forman doesn't always exhibit his true feelings. The rare instance when Red opened up about his true feelings was when Eric was about to leave for Africa.

Here's what he said: "You're my son and I'm your father and... I want you to know that I'm going to miss you and I love you."

The Dad who knows best - George from Suburgatory

George and Tessa have an unorthodox relationship and there are times when she seems like the adult. But George knows what's best for his daughter and this was one of the reasons why he moved them to the suburbs when he found a box of condoms on Tessa's nightstand.

The Dad who is a through and through family man - Adam from Man with a Plan

Adam is the coolest dad in town, but he surely knows how to discipline his children, especially when they are hooked on to their gadgets. The show charted the transformation of a dad who takes on the role of a caregiver while his wife goes away to work.
Although Adam is out of his element, he has some practical and maybe not appropriate advice when his children approach him with their troubles.

For instance, when Adam's youngest says she's worried about kindergarten, here's what Adam says: "You should be worried. Kids are mean. But just know if you feel uncomfortable you start swinging. Punch in the nose can be a real problem solver."

Man with a Plan currently airs on Comedy Central. In the US it airs on CBS.
