The police in north Kerala's Kannur district have arrested a father, brother and an uncle of a teenage girl for sexually abusing her over the last two years.

The horrifying incident was revealed when the 13-year-old girl of class VIII refused to go home and recounted the whole incident to her teacher, who later informed the police.

The police have arrested all the three men following a complaint by the teacher and have also registered a rape case against them. The victim's brother, 15, has been sent to a juvenile home while the father and uncle have been sent to judicial custody, said Thalassery Circle Inspector, MV Vinod Kumar, according to PTI.

The minor told the police that the trio allegedly raped her from the time she was in class six. The girl revealed that her elder sister was also raped following which she committed suicide, according to Kumar.

The victim's mother works as a coolie, Kerala Vanitha Commission Chairperson, KC Rosakutty told PTI. Rosakutty also said that the shocking incident was an "insult" to Kerala's conscience.

"We are taking care of the girl's guardianship and we are taking care of her. It is a sad situation where her mother is not coming forward to lodge a complaint. She is afraid as her own family is involved," Rosakutty told PTI.

Rosakutty said that the commission would be writing to the Chief Minister regarding the matter, demanding re-enquiry into the suicide case of the victim's sister.

"This is a shocking case of two minor sisters being raped by family members. The police say the elder sister committed suicide. But this needs to be probed as no proper inquiry was done," Rosakutty said.
