A 45-year-old railway guard was arrested by the Kota police on Thursday for raping a college student after developing a friendship with her by posting a fake account on social networking website Facebook.

Indrapal Singh, a railway employee in Hisar (Haryana), created a fake profile under the name Ravinder Singh and befriended a 21-year-old BCom student from Kota City in Rajasthan. Both had been in touch for the last two months over phone.

Indrapal asked the girl to meet him at a lodge called Shubham Hotel. After realising that the student was not aware of his true identity, Indrapal told her that Ravinder had been arrested, India TV reported.

Inderpal then locked the victim in the room and raped her. He also shot an obscene video clip of the girl.

After leaving the hotel, the victim lodged a complaint in Bhimganjmandi police station. The police conducted a search in the lodge and the entry registery of the hotel showed that the accused had checked in using a fake name and address.

Indrapal was arrested along with Rajesh Ahuja, the hotel manager, for facilitating stay of accused in the hotel without proper documentation and identity

The police produced the accused before a local court and sought a single day's judicial custody for investigation.

A similar incident was recorded by Delhi Police in July when an engineering student was raped by the director of a private educational institute after befriending him on Facebook. They had decided to meet on a date after chatting regularly online.
