The UK is one of 145 countries participating at Expo Milan 2015, a global commercial fair that opened on 1 May.

The events theme Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life focuses on nutrition and attending countries are expected to showcase the best of their technology to feed and sustain the worlds growing population.

Britains purpose-built national pavilion revolves around a little endangered insect responsible for fertilising three quarters of all crops: the bee.

IBTimes UK went to Milan to have a look and speak to Wolfgang Buttress, the Nottingham-based artist who designed the pavilion and Hannah Corbett, the commissioner general for the UK at universal exposition.

Expo Milan 2015 runs until October.
