Ex Spice Girl member Mel C ditched her tom-boy look and shared a picture of herself, topless, on Instagram. In a bold move by the singer, the picture shows Mel covering her cleavage with her hands, while showing off her toned body and her stomach tattoo

Announcing her preparation for a shoot, the Instagram picture was captioned: 'Cheeky little cover shoot tomorrow. Better get my work pants ready!' The post comes a few days after her former band mate, Mel B, uploaded a similar picture.

The singer aimed at creating a powerful message regarding body confidence as she displayed her well-toned body for the camera. The picture has garnered a lot of positive reviews with fans sharing how beautiful and confident she looks. However, many have also spoken against her for taking the step after criticizing the girl band, Little Mix.

"They are all gorgeous and great singers. But they weren't sexy and it's got more and more that way. I love them – but I just say, stay you. All young women want to look sexy and hot so I understand it's hard. But I think it's such a shame. We live in a narcissistic age – it's 100 per cent worse than when I was in the Spice Girls. It was a more innocent time," Mel C told the Sunday People in October.

After releasing such a statement and then posting the picture, it is understandable that Little Mix and Mel C fans went on frenzy and started criticizing her for the picture.

Commenting on the photo, fan messages read:

Mary:

Didn't you just criticise Little Mix for dressing "provocatively "?. A bit hypocritical don't ya think?!!

Becky BakesWell:

Didn't you say in an interview on The Pool a few weeks back that you don't know why women get their kit off in the name of 'girl power' and you couldn't get your 'bits and bobs out in public' as you wouldn't find it 'empowering'. Hypocritical much?

Sadly I think you may have left yourself open for this criticism from little mix fans. Not that I think your photo is sexual at all. Neither did I think you were correct in your criticism of those young ladies trying to become adults in a sexist industry.

Hannan:

Pretty sure you were quick to criticize little mix on their 'provocative' outfits and sexualisation and here you are with nothing but your pants on?? Pot kettle black springs to mind.

While the details of the photo shoot are not out yet, we'll have to wait and watch what Mel C's explanation is going to be.
