In the recent months, there were lots of rumours surrounding ace director Mani Ratnam's next project.

The latest rumour suggests the presence of Dulquer Salmaan and Nivin Pauly in the upcoming film.

Ratnam's new film is said to be the remake of his evergreen hit film "Mouna Raagam" (1986), that won the National Film Award for the Best Feature Film in Tamil in the year 1987.

Reportedly, Nivin will do the role played by Mohan and Dulquer will do the role played by Karthik.

The reports also suggest that the film's music will be composed by none other than A. R. Rahman. It was Ilaiyaraja who composed the music for the film's original version.

Earlier, there were reports of Alia Bhatt and Shruthi Haasan being approached for film's lead heroine role. Now, the film insiders indicate that the ace director has decided to cast another popular South Indian actress to play the role, which is not yet revealed.

Though there are many rumours about the film, Ratnam and others associated with the film are tight lipped about it.

Ratnam's last film "Kadal" (2013), which introduced Gautham Karthik, son of actor Karthik and Thulasi Nair, daughter of actress Radha, also marked the comeback of actor Arvind Swamy.

If the rumours about Dulquer and Nivin's presence in Ratnam's upcoming project rings true, they will be included in the rare list of Malayalam actors who got a chance to work with the ace director.

Among the Malayalam actors, only Mohanlal and Mammootty have worked with the director. Mohanlal had worked with him in the 1984 film "Unaru" and 1997 political drama "Iruvar", while, Mammootty has appeared in an important role in Ratnam's "Thalapathi" along with Rajanikanth.
