Domestic car sales registered 14th straight month of growth in December 2015 at 1,72,671 units, though there is a marginal decline when compared to November car sales.

Car sales grew 12.87% in December 2015 when compared to 1,52,986 units sold in December 2014, revealed data released by industry body, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam), on Monday.

However, motorcycle sales saw a fall of 5.93% to 7,24,807 units, from 7,70,519 units sold in December 2014. Overall, two-wheeler sales also saw a decline of 3.10% to 11,67,633 units.

Sales of commercial vehicles grew at 11.45% to 56,840 units, reported Business Standard.

"Passenger vehicles have seen decent growth. Volumes are also increasing. We are concerned about light commercial vehicles (LCV) but we think that growth in LCV follows once heavy commercial vehicle sales pick up," said Vishnu Mathur, director general, Siam, reported Mint.

While most of the car makers such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Renault India posted growth in domestic car sales in December, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Tata Motors and Honda Cars saw their sales decline in December 2015.

Mercedez-Benz also registered 32% rise in sales in calendar year 2015 at 13,502 units, up from 10,201 units in calendar year 2014.
