A doctor sustained serious injuries after being thrashed with a rod by the father of a patient who passed away at the hospital in Odisha's Balasore district. Bharat Samal, who hails from Balgopalpur village in Balasore, is now undergoing treatment at the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The patient, identified as 22-year-old Krishna Dey, was earlier admitted with a pancreatic disorder, according to a Press Trust of India report.

As Krishna's condition was deteriorating, the doctors had suggested that he should be shifted to another hospital.

Krishna passed away when the hospital's staff was preparing to move him to another hospital in an ambulance. This infuriated Krishna's father, who then went ahead to beat up doctor Samal. Samal has sustained injuries on his head, chest, hands and legs.

Odisha Police have filed a case under Indian Penal Code and arrested the accused. A probe has also been ordered by the hospital and measures are being taken to improve security.
