The former captain lifted Rohit Sharma-led India from a dire 22 for 7 to 112 as he hit more than half of the team's total, stitching handy stands with tail-enders. With a well-paced 87-ball 65 on a greenish surface at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) stadium, Dhoni gave Indian cricket fans a reason to rejoice on an otherwise horrible day.

There was more in store for his fans as Dhoni got a DRS call spot on, thereby saving Jasprit Bumrah.

The wicketkeeper-batsman, who was at the non-striker's end, spontaneously asked for a review as umpire Anil Chaudhary was raising his fingers to signal an LBW call against the batsman in the 33rd over of the Indian innings.

Much to the crowd's delight, Chaudhury was asked to overturn his decision as the ball struck Bumrah outside the line.

Meanwhile, after having lost the first ODI, India will face a must-win situation when they take on the visitors in the second ODI in Mohali on Wednesday, December 13.
