Varanasi, Feb 03 (ANI): Thousands of devotees took a dip at 'Sangam', the confluence of river Ganges, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati, in the holy city of Varanasi of Uttar Pradesh on the auspicious occasion of full moon day or Magh Purnima on Tuesday. Magh Purnima marks the last day of the month of Magh (January-February) in the Hindu calendar. Devout Hindus stated gathering at the river bank from early in the morning to perform religious rituals. They queued up before priests who had erected makeshift altars on the riverbanks to perform the rituals and offer prayers. Apart from taking a dip in the holy waters, devotees also donate food and clothes on this day. A devotee, Hiranand Pandey said that the tradition is being followed for years now. The month-long festival was marked in Allahabad city and was attended by over 25 lakh pilgrims. According to Hindu practice, a dip at the holy confluence breaks the cycle of rebirth.
