PV Sindhu's sensational run in the Denmark Open came to an unfortunate end, as she faltered in the final against China's Li Xuerui, who defended her crown to win the women's title on Sunday. The Indian lost the match in straight sets in 47 minutes, with the score reading 21-19, 21-12.

The first set was a mighty close one, which could have gone Sindhu's way as she had raced to a huge lead winning some big points in succession, but Li Xuerui, with her experience of playing in such mega finals, stormed back to eventually clinch the set, which seemed to set the tone for the rest of the final.

Li looked in good control of the second set as Sindhu, despite her efforts, failed to live up to the standards that she had set in the competition coming into this final. One has to give credit to the Chinese, who showed her class when it mattered the most.

Despite her loss, Sindhu should not be disheartened as her overall performance in the competition was top class as she defeated some of the best shuttlers in the singles competition, which includes Wang Yihan and world champion Carolina Marin.
