A 17-year-old- girl was raped by two men on New Year's Eve at Safdarjung Enclave area of south Delhi. The accused were arrested and later sent to judicial custody.

In her statement to the police the girl said that one of the accused, who had befriended her on Facebook a couple of months ago, had invited her to celebrate New Year at a flat in the area. She claimed that she was offered a drink which was laced with sedative and was raped by the two men when she fell unconscious.

The accused duo, who are in their late 20's, are employees of reputed IT firms. The police had revealed that one of the accused was employed in the HR department of a blue-chip technology and consulting multinational while the other was a software engineer.

The police said that the offenders lived with their families in Sarojini Nagar. They were nabbed and produced in Saket court on Tuesday afternoon and were then sent to Tihar jail. They have been charged under Section 376/34 of Indian Penal code.

The police had kept the details of the investigation under wraps until the two men were arrested.

The recent rape incident comes up at a time when the country is mourning the death of the 23-year-old girl who was victimised by six men in a moving bus in Delih. In another similar incident, a 16-year-old girl was molested by an off-duty bus conductor in the capital last week.
