The Airport Council International (ACI), a non-profit organization of the world's airports, on Tuesday revealed the list of winners of its annual Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards for 2012.

Three Indian airports - Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad - are among the top best airports by size and region.

Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport: ACI has ranked IGI airport as the fourth best airport by region (Asia-Pacific). Seoul Incheon International Airport in Korea is at the top position in the list of best airports in Asia-Pacific, followed by Singapore's Changi Airport at second position and Beijing airport at third.

Delhi's IGI is also ranked as the second best after Seoul's Incheon in the category of airports by size that is handling around 25-40 million passengers per year.

Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport: It was ranked as the third best in the category of airports by size.

Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International airport (RGI): Hyderabad's airport was ranked as the second best after Nagoya Airport in Japan for their service in the category for handling 5-15 million passengers per year.

The ACI gives out the awards on a survey that is based on passengers' feedback, satisfaction and ratings on a range of service delivery parameters that track the commuters experience at an airport on the day of travel.

"This an exciting time for airports. As airports and their operators increasingly accept the positive correlation between passenger satisfaction and airport revenues, we see more and more airports striving to meet, and in some cases exceed, the levels of customer service that their passengers expect from their favoured product and service providers," ACI World Director General Angela Gittens said in a statement.

"I am delighted to see longstanding favourites take home ASQ awards as it is testament to the growing and accepted wisdom in the airport community that maintaining customer service excellence is central to a winning business strategy. I am equally excited to see other airports rank for the very first time this year, which stands to prove that it is never too late to adopt a winning customer service orientation to which the ASQ programme is fundamental."
