Datsun has introduced a new variant of Go hatchback, christened Go NXT. The NXT is based on the current top end variant and additionally features reverse parking sensors, remote locking and an exhaust tip finished in chrome.
A new space saver parcel tray and instrument cluster in piano black housing are the changes in the interior.
The new variant will be powered by the same 1198cc, three-cylinder engine developing 67bhp mated to five-speed manual transmission.
Go NXT is on sale and is priced at Rs 4,09,112, ex-showroom, New Delhi, a dealer informed.
When Nissan re-launched Datsun as a budget brand in 2013, the cars were expected to shake down the segment, which is the domain of the Maruti Suzuki and the Hyundai. However, the first car from the stable, the Go hatchback, received a lot of criticism from the auto industry for its cost-cutting strategies, making a debut that Nissan wishes to forget. Adding salt to the wound, the car received zero-star rating in the safety test conducted by the Global NCAP, an umbrella body of consumer car safety testing bodies.
Later, Datsun offered an airbag option to the top end variant 'T'. That was not enough to increase the sales and the brand only sold 687 units of Go in July 2015, according to autoportal.com.
With the new features in place, the Go hatchback has got a new lease of life and will be pitted against Maruti Suzuki Alto and Hyundai Eon.
