Rubbishing the rumours surrounding former Cuban President Fidel Castro's ill health, Cuba's government has released some recent photos of the former leader.

Earlier, some reports mentioned that Castro was sick or had died.

In the recent images, which were published nearly after six months, Castro and his wife Dalia Soto del Valle are seen spending time with the leader of the student association of the University of Havana, Randy Perdomo Garcia.

The photos of the 88-year-old went viral after an online version of Cuba's state-run newspaper, Granma published them on Monday.

Perdomo has also written an article, titled "Fidel is one of a kind", recollecting his moments with the former leader on 23 January.

"It all began with his call to the Office of the FEU University of Havana on January 22 , at 9 and 20 pm. Although the announcement was preceded by a moment I expected, the voice , so often heard from afar, was shocking to feel close," Perdomo began the article (as translated by Google).

Castro was last seen in public at an art gallery opening near his home on 8 January, 2014.

Now the Cuban website claims that the recent images were published as "Cuba is anxious to know about their former leader".
