"Containment" is the latest drama series by The CW and is scheduled to air April 19. The upcoming series is based on Belgian TV series "Cordon" and will star Chris Wood of "The Vampire Diaries" fame.

According to Fashion & Style, the writer and executive producer of "Containment," Julie Plec, has said that Season 1 will "explore humanity's instinct to survive against all odds."

Plec later said that the upcoming series will take the viewers on a "thrilling ride," as reported by Comic Book Resources.

"Containment" tells the story of the residents of Antwerp who desperately try to contain a rapidly-spreading virus in order to avoid it from spreading outside the quarantined area.

Fashion & Style has stated that this version of "Cordon" will be slightly different than the original series as Plec has said that she wanted to emphasise on exploring several aspects of the survival instinct.

The website also reported that Claudia Black, who will portray the role of CDC manager Dr Sabine Lommers, has revealed that the lethal virus will be one of the most prominent elements in the series.

"The virus itself is like a character in the show. It permeates every relationship and affects in a really brilliant and dramatic way every dynamic between the people we establish," Black said.

Talking about his role, Wood said that his character will be compelled under several circumstances to play the role of a hero.

"This is a guy and his first impulse, even in the pilot, is to protect himself. He's not used to stepping up and he certainly doesn't want to be a hero. He doesn't want to be a leader and he's being put in that position against his will."

The synopsis of the episode, as stated by KSite TV, reads:

"When a mysterious and deadly epidemic breaks out in Atlanta, a vast urban quarantine is quickly enforced, forcing those stuck on the inside to fight for their lives while local and federal officials desperately search for a cure. Torn apart from their loved ones, the survivors trapped within the cordon are fighting against not only fatal infection but also isolation, fear, and the disintegration of society around them. As they begin to gain each other's trust, hope remains, and on either side of the cordon, unlikely heroes will rise."
