It is an important day for Xiaomi fans today as the Chinese tech giant has two major announcements lined up.
On Tuesday, Xiaomi India shared an update on its official Facebook page that the Redmi 2 price will be ₹1,000 cheaper in India as hinted before. This sheds the price of Xiaomi's budget-friendly Redmi 2 in India to just ₹5,999, making it an attractive deal for those who are looking to buy a new phone under budget. In addition, the company announced the rollout of MIUI 6 for dated Redmi 1S users across India.
The announcement of Redmi 2 price drop comes shortly after the company teased an image with a partially covered price tag of ₹5,999. It was evident Xiaomi was referring to its Redmi 2 smartphone as it was the closest deal. The discount is not limited to handsets sold via Xiaomi's e-Store but also valid for those who purchase the affordable Redmi 2 via Flipkart, Snapdeal or Amazon India. Buyers can choose from White or Black colour options available for the Redmi 2 and also choose from a range of phone cases.
At an attractive ₹5,999 price tag, Xiaomi Redmi 2 packs a 4.7-inch HD IPS display, 8MP primary camera, 2MP front snapper, 2,200mAh battery and support for dual-SIM as well as 4G LTE. Under the hood, Redmi 2 packs a 64-bit quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC paired with 1GB DDR3 RAM, Adreno 306 GPU for graphics and 8GB expandable storage.
With the new price cut, the Redmi 2 has an advantage over its rivals Yu Yuphoria, Lenovo A6000, Moto E2 among others.
Xiaomi's announcement does not stop at the price cut for its Redmi 2, which favors new customers, but also attracts the existing ones. Owners of Redmi 1S will soon be treated to the latest MIUI 6, which the company says will be rolled out in the next few days. The update will be pushed as an OTA and users can simply click on install once the notification arrives.
