Comic Con Beijing
Comic Con Beijing

Comic Con is the event that unites all the comic book, superhero and sci-fi lovers of the world. Beijing celebrated this amazing pop culture phenomenon for the first time over the second week of June 2016.

Obviously this was not an opportunity that Jatin Varma, the founder of Comic Con India, was going to pass. International Business Times India spoke to Varma about his experience at the Beijing Comic Con and how it will have an impression on the comic con events in India.

International Business Times: How was the experience at Beijing Comic Con?
Jatin Varma: It was an amazing experience. I was lucky to experience Beijing's first ever comic con. The fans there were amazing. It was also my first time in China and it was very interesting to get an overview of pop culture in the country. And as always, despite the different languages & regions, fans across the world are quite similar in their likes & their passion.

IBT: Which were the panels you were most excited about and which celebrities were you most excited to meet?
Varma: I was excited about meeting the legendary Jim Lee [illustrator for DC, Marvel and Image Comics], he was a special guest at the convention. His panel was great and he was overwhelmed with the sheer number of fans that were lined up to meet him. I also got to meet Brandon Routh [ATOM from "Legends of Tomorrow"], Ming Na Wen [Melinda May from "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D"] as well quite a few international artists. But getting insight from Jim Lee himself on the new re-birth line up at DC was the highlight.

IBT: Were you inspired by anything you saw there that you might incorporate in the Indian Comic Cons this year?

Varma: Yes for sure, my aim, when i travel to cons around the world, is to pick up useful ideas that we could implement back home. With Beijing, their show merchandise as well indie game developers area was quite good. I am planning on implementing something similar here at our shows.

IBT: What can you tease us about the upcoming Bangalore Comic Con ?

Varma: Bangalore will be back after a gap of almost 18 months, in a brand new venue! Not only do we have a great line up of guests planned for the show, we are also creating some great experiences for fans. 12-13th November at KTPO in Whitefield, are going to be Epic!
