Police on the scene of the shooting rampage at cinema in Aurora, Colorado

At least 14 people were killed and 50 others have been injured in a shooting incident at a movie theater near Denver, Colorado, early Friday. The incident occurred around midnight when at least one attacker opened fire on people who came to watch the new Batman film, "The Dark Knight Rises," at the Century 16 movie theatre at Aurora Town Center. 

At around 12.30 a.m, police authorities started receiving phone calls about the shooting inside the mall theatre. Dispatch officers said that there were fatalities but can't give provide an estimate, the Associated Press reported.

According to local media reports, two gunmen wearing gas masks were involved in the rampage.

Police have reportedly arrested one of the suspects, but are yet to reveal any further details.

According to IBTimes UK, the gunmen were on the lookout for an Indian male and began their manhunt at a local mall.

Police spokeswoman Cassidee Carlson said that "the scene is still very active and we have little information for release at this time."

One of the witnesses told CNN that he saw a "guy slowly making his way up the stairs and firing, picking random people".

Those hurt in the shooting mostly suffered from gunshots wound. Some children are also believed to be amongt those injured. According to Fox News, a baby was shot at close range during the shooting.
