Coachella, aka Americas answer to Glastonbury, kicked off on 14 April in Indio, California and what a fantastic weekend it was. There were many surprises and some unexpected appearances.
Ice Cube created a historic moment when his legendary rap group NWA joined him on-stage during his Saturday set. Dr Dre was missing from the action but MC Ren and DJ Yella made cameos for a performance of the rap collectives classic track F The Police. Snoop Dogg, Common and even Ice Cubes son OShea Jackson also made appearances. Now thats what you call an epic set.
Later in the evening, another legendary group reunited in front of the masses with Guns N Roses headlining the festival on Saturday 16 April. It was the first time in 20 years that guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan had reunited with frontman Axl Rose. The rockers two-and-a-half-hour set was filled with their classic songs, including Sweet Child O Mine and Knockin On Heavens Door, while AC/DCs Angus Young made a surprise cameo appearance.
Kesha made a triumphant return to the stage on Saturday with DJ Zedd inviting the pop star to perform his track True Colours. Kesha did not speak to the audience during her brief appearance, making no mention of the ongoing sexual assault allegations case involving music producer Dr Luke. Still, the singer received a very warm welcome from the crowd who cheered her on.
Closing the first weekend was Calvin Harris who performed an incredible set, which featured Rihanna performing their monster single We Found Love. Big Sean and John Newman also joined Calvin on-stage, while his girlfriend Taylor Swift acted as a cheerleader from the front row. Now thats how you close a festival.
