Democratic presumptive candidate Hillary Clinton declared her intent to make identifying and stopping lone wolves a top priority in a speech at a campaign event in Cleveland, Ohio, on 13 June.

The speech came in the wake of Omar Mateen shooting dead 49 people at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando in the early hours of Sunday, 12 June. At the time of Clinton taking the stage, US authorities were investigating whether or not the gunman had declared his allegiance to Islamic State (Isis/Daesh) or received aid from the militant group.

Matten, the 29-year-old son of Afghan immigrants, was shot and killed by police who stormed the club early Sunday morning after a three-hour siege.

During the speech Clinton also spoke about ramping up the air campaign and accelerating support for our friends fighting to take and hold ground in Iraq and Syria.

This was at the same time as calling for gun control measures, so that If the FBI is watching you for suspected terrorist links, you shouldnt be able to just go buy a gun with no questions asked.

Last December, Democrats attempted to pass legislation that would prevent people on terror watch lists and other suspected terrorists from buying firearms or explosives. It was blocked by Republicans who said the government could mistakenly place innocent people on watch lists.

On 13 June, the day after the terror attack in Orlando, Democrats staged a walkout of the house when a moment of silence was requested to remember the victims of the mass shooting. This was in protest to press Republican lawmakers to take stronger action on gun control legislation.
