Results for India's prestigious civil services examination for the batch of 2015 were announced on Tuesday by the Union Public Services Commission (UPSC). Tina Dabi, a 22-year-old Delhi girl secured the first rank, repeating the feat another girl from Delhi had achieved last year, reported NDTV.

Athar Aamir Ul Shafi Khan, who hails from south Kashmir's Anantnag district, secured the second place, followed by Jasmeet Singh Sandhu at third, and Shashank Tripathi and Ashish Tiwari at the fourth and fifth rank, respectively.

"Congrats to all those who cleared the Civil Services Exam. My good wishes as they commence a new & exciting phase of their lives," Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.

Dabi , a political science student of Lady Shri Ram College, told the Press Trust of India, that "it was indeed a proud moment for me." It was her maiden attempt at the examination.

Khan said it was "a dream come true" for him, and added, "I will not leave any stone unturned to work for the betterment of people."

A total of 1,078 appointments to many of India's top All India Services and Group A service for the batch of 2015 were concluded after the examination that spanned nearly nine months.

Of the total appointments, 499 were from the general category, 314 from other backward classes (OBCs), 176 from the Scheduled Castes and 89 from the Scheduled Tribes.
