After a series of incidents, including one where in a porn clip was displayed on giant screens inside a mall, the Chinese government has now ordered a ban on amateur sex videos from being shared on social media.

Citing such incidents, China's Office against Pornography and Illegal Publication has asked local officials to take "resolute action" against people uploading such content online, the Associated Press reported.

China, which has for a long maintained a strong anti-pornography stance, has seen a spurt in amateur sex videos shot on mobile phones and shared on social media.

The country was rocked on Wednesday when sex scenes were screened on giant TV sets inside a shopping mall in the eastern city of Lishui, prompting authorities to order an investigation. The same day, a homemade sex video shot in Chengdu went viral on China's micro-blogging platform, Weibo.

In July, a sex video shot on a mobile phone at a trial room of the clothing retailer Uniqlo had gone viral worldwide.

The government has also set up a hotline number for people to report amateur sex videos uploaded on social media.
