A video has been released showing the moment an 8.3 magnitude earthquake struck a supermarket in Santiago, Chile. In the amateur footage posted online, customers in the supermarket can be heard screaming as the ground begins to shake, causing the lights to go out. The emergency lights come on as numerous items fall off the shelves during the seismic event.

The unidentified individual filming the incident proceeds to walk down the aisles, revealing the broken bottles and other items littering the floor. The earthquake hit the coast of central Chile, about 246km (153 miles) north-west of the capital of Santiago. According to a preliminary assessment from the US Geological Survey, the quakes epicentre was about 54km west of Illapel and had a depth of 33km.

So far, a total of five people were reported killed with one person listed as missing, Associated Press reports. Another 1 million people were evacuated from affected coastal areas after a tsunami alert was issued.
