The fifth season of "Chigao Fire" will see newcomer Miranda Rae Mayo, who plays the role of firefighter Stella Kidd in the series, being promoted to a series regular.

As reported by TV Line, Mayo will get more screen time in the upcoming season compared to the previous one. She first appeared in the series as the latest member of Firehouse 51.

The prominent characters of the series, Dawson (Monica Raymund) and Severide (Taylor Kinney) were familiar with Stella when she first joined the department. Severide developed feelings for her and they decided to be together in Season 4 finale, with Stella finally deciding to end her troubled marriage with her husband Grant (Guy Burnet).

In the previous season, the season finale ended with a cliffhanger where Grant found out about Stella and Severide's relationship and decided to end their lives as at the end of the episode, he was seen grabbing a knife and entering Stella's apartment where she and Severide were making love.

In a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Matt Olmstead discussed Stella's role in Season 5 and said that she will play an important part in the upcoming season.

"But, all the while, hopefully convincing the audience, as we're convinced, that they're really made for each other. They're really similar and we want to create a sense of, it would be great for them to be together," Olmstead said.

When asked whether there will be new cast members in the upcoming season, Olmstead said that for now there are no such plans. However, if it would be needed, a new cast member might be included afterwards.

The exact air date has not yet been announced by NBC. However, Season 5 of "Chicago Fire" is expected to return sometime in the second quarter of 2016.
