Chevrolet Essentia compact sedan is already out on the Indian roads for its testing and the eagle-eyed spy photographers have also managed to click a few shots of the model while undergoing testing, fuelling fresh round of whispers on the auto corridor about its launch. Now to add to this, the latest interesting tidbit that is doing the rounds on the web is that the Chevrolet Essentia will see the light of the day in early 2017.
A report of AutocarIndia says that the Essentia compact sedan is likely to be launched in India in March 2017. General Motors India has showcased the Essentia, the compact sedan based on the next generation Beat hatchback at the Auto Expo 2016.
Chevrolet Essentia, the compact sedan which has been deigned to suit the taste of Indian consumers, is designed in the GM Korea Design Studio. Essentia is expected to come powered by a 1.2-litre STEC II engine that can churn out 77bhp and 107Nm and the diesel mill will be a 1.0-litre XSDE unit that can make 56bhp and 142.5Nm. Both the engines will be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
On the design front, Essentia is expected to get a split grille with a bowtie logo at the front along with swept back smoked headlamps. While the side profile of the compact sedan will take design cues from the Beat, the Essentia is expected to come with two-tone upholstery inside the cabin. The Essentia is expected to have a similar cabin like the Beat. The sedan might also feature Chevrolet's MyLink infotainment system with a large touchscreen interface.
Chevrolet Essentia will rival Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Ford Figo Aspire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Volkswagen Ameo, Tata Zest and Tata's upcoming Kite 5 compact sedan.
