Shah Rukh Khan's "Chennai Express" is continuing its dream run in the Indian and overseas markets in its second weekend.

"Chennai Express" made slightly over ₹25 crore during the second weekend, despite the release of another big film, "Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara", which stars Akshay Kumar, Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha.

The SRK-starrer earned just around ₹6.50 crore on Friday (16 August) due to reduced number of screens and shows. But the film raked in better collections on Saturday (₹8.51 crore) and Sunday (₹10.22 crore). Its total collections are now pegged at ₹181.93 crore.

"#ChennaiExpress collected Rs 25.23 cr nett in Weekend 2. Fri 6.50 cr, Sat 8.51 cr, Sun 10.22 cr. Grand total: Rs 181.93 cr. BLOCKBUSTER," film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

The SRK starrer has taken the fourth spot in the list of all-time Bollywood grossers. Aamir Khan's "3 Idiots" (₹202.47 crore) tops the list followed by Salman's "Ek Tha Tiger" (₹198.78 crore) and Ranbir's "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" (₹188.57 crore). "Chennai Express" is expected to earn more collections than Ranbir's film in another few days. The film is likely to take the third spot in the list of all-time grossers.

International Markets

The action entertainer is performing well in the overseas markets as well. The film has minted ₹72 crore in just nine days overseas. According to Taran, "Chennai Express" is soon nearing the ₹25 crore mark at the US-Canada box office alone.

"#ChennaiExpress is nearing the $ 4 million mark [Rs 24.66 cr] in USA-Canada after its second weekend. Incredible!" Taran tweeted.

The film has also performed extremely well in other key international markets including UK, Australia and New Zealand. Even though critics have panned "Chennai Express", the audience has given their support for the film. It has been on a record smashing spree in several Indian states and also in overseas markets.

The SRK-starrer holds the record for highest paid previews, highest day 1, highest day 2, highest day 3 , fastest ₹100 crore and highest week 1 at the domestic box office. In the international arena, "Chennai Express" has set a record of becoming the highest opening week grosser.

Directed by Rohit Shetty, "Chennai Express" is about a Mumbai man who falls in love with a Tamil girl on his way to Rameshwaram. The film has Deepika Padukone, Tamil actor Sathyaraj, Nikitin Dheer and Kamini Kaushal in supporting roles.
