Chelsea new manager Jose Mourinho, who has returned to Stamford Bridge for a second spell after leaving for Real Madrid five years ago, has avoided transfer news even as he expressed his keenness to improve his old club but speculations are rife that the Blues are eyeing some big names.

Several football stars like Edinson Cavani, Wayne Rooney, Wesley Sneijder and a few others have been linked to Chelsea even before the summer transfer windows open. In the meantime, Fernando Torres could be shown the doors if rumours are to be believed.

"We have to improve the team, and when I say improve the team people are already thinking about how many millions Chelsea are going to spend, and when I say improve the team I am saying improving by work," Jose Mourinho told Chelsea TV.

"My work has to improve players and improve the team. If I don't do that I am not happy with myself. If after that we can improve the team by buying a couple of players it is fantastic but I have to improve the team and the players with my work. That's a priority, improve."

Meanwhile, it is reported that Chelsea are interested in Napoli's Edinson Cavani and were even willing to offer its star striker Fernando Torres as part of an exchange. However, it won't be easy to bring rope in Cavani, as Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis is said to be not letting him off below €63 million (£53.9m). Real Madrid and Manchester City are also said to be interested in the Uruguayan star.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is also being linked with Chelsea ever since he placed a transfer request to Sir Alex Ferguson a few weeks ago. A section of the media reported that the Blues have asked the Red Devils on the price of the England striker. Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are the other clubs that have reportedly shown interest in him.

Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder has been linked to Chelsea ever since the reports of his exit plan from Galatasaray surfaced. The Daily Telegraph also reported that Manchester City's Edin Dzeko could land up in Chelsea as he is on Mourinho's wanted list.

Rumours were also doing the rounds that Cristiano Ronaldo, who has expressed his displeasure in Real Madrid, would go with Mourinho but the latter rubbished the reports, revealing that he had problem with him at Santiago Bernabeu despite good time together.

In what could come as a setback for Chelsea, it is reported that 26-year-old vice-captain of Brazil national team, David Luiz has reportedly refused to discuss his future plans in Chelsea, hinting that he is ready to leave Stamford Bridge. Rumours are rife that clubs like Barcelona and Napoli are interested in signing him.
