Joan Rivers, the sharp tongue comedian who made America laugh with her in-your- face humor for over 50 years has died at the age of 81. The comedy icon had been in intensive care for a week after going into respiratory and cardiac arrest during throat surgery at a New York clinic. The current queens of comedy took to Twitter to express their feelings. Ellen DeGeneres wrote: ‘Joan Rivers will always be a pioneer. She paved the way for a lot of comedians. I’m very sad she’s gone’. “Girls” star Lena Dunham added: ‘Watching Joan Rivers do standup at age 81 was incredible: athletic, jaw- dropping, terrifying, essential. It never stopped. Neither will she’. Long time friend Kathy Griffin could only write: ‘A legend, a friend, a mentor, an icon, and wildly funny. One of a kind. RIP’. Her daughter, Melissa Rivers said in a statement. “My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh.
