Ceasefire Violations: J&K CM Omar Abdullah Warns Pakistan, Shinde Rejects US Intervention

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde took a tough stand against repeated ceasefire violations at the Line of Control (LoC) by neighbouring country Pakistan.

According to media reports, heavy firing by Pakistan troops was witnessed on Monday along the LoC. The Pakistan Army intensified the attack at five forward posts of the Border Security Force (BSF), making it the eighth incident of ceasefire violation in 24 hours, NDTV reported.

"Militancy in the state is not over. If they (Pakistan) attack us, we have to give a befitting reply. If they violate ceasefire then we won't respond with words, we will give an eye for an eye," Abdullah told ANI.

The J&K chief minister guaranteed not to stay silent regarding the issue of repeated breach at the LoC.

On Sunday, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had reportedly sought US intervention in the Kashmir issue.

To which Shinde reacted saying," Our stand has always been that when it is a matter between two countries, the third country cannot participate in it. This has been our viewpoint right the time of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru and even today our view is the same."

CM Abdullah was perplexed whether Sharif had a hand in the repeated ceasefire violations or rather had no control over the Pakistan Army.

Moreover, defense expert Bharat Verma said that Sharif asking for intervention from a third party exposes his motives and that there is no difference between the mindset of the Pakistan Army and their PM.

LoC violations by the neighbouring country have almost doubled this year as compared to 2012. There has been a trend of increasing number of ceasefire violations in the past five years.
