Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani said on Saturday in New Delhi all CBSE books and learning material will be available online for free as part of the Centre's good governance efforts.

Speaking at a function organised at a Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) in East Delhi, Irani said the initiatives would be undertaken to ensure holistic nurturing and improving the learning outcomes in schools, PTI reported.

"We made NCERT (National Council Of Educational Research And Training) books available online for free through ebooks and mobile applications a month-and-a half ago. We are similarly going to make CBSE books available along with additional learning material and videos as part of our good governance efforts," Irani said.

From the next academic year, the Centre will launch the Shaala Darpan and Saransh services for students of class I-XII in Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country.

The Shaala Darpan service will keep parents informed about their wards' attendance, time table and examination marks via SMS. Using the Saransh service, parents would be able to compare subject-wise learning outcomes for their children with others, at the district, state and national levels, the PTI report said.

Addressing the function earlier during the day, Deputy Chief Minister for Delhi Manish Sisodia stressed on the importance of education in a child's life. "You need to check whether you are doing better than yesterday. Are we behaving better than yesterday? The focus should be that if a child gets out of educational institutes 20 years later, he/she should pass out as a sensible person," Sisodia said, as reported by PTI.

The Aam Aadmi Party leader also urged the schools to take the responsibility of turning children into good human beings.

"When we read in newspapers about communal violence, rapes somewhere, then we feel we fell short somewhere. Hence, we will have to take responsibility. A person is giving us 20 years of his/her life.

"So, we will have to ensure we impress on him/her that it is equally important to be a good human being as to be a good engineer or other professional," he said.

"Endeavours must be made to ensure that children not only excel professionally, but also become good human beings," Irani said reacting to the call of Manish Sisodia.

The HRD minister has also asked her ministry to organize "Baal Sabha" (Child conventions).
At these conventions, the children would get a chance to interact with professionals from various fields, which will help them grow into "good human beings," Irani said, Hindustan Times reported.
