The second episode of "Castle" season 8 ended with a shocking plot twist and many of the fans were left disappointed with the new developments in the storyline. But, the creators have assured some spark in episode 3, titled "PhDead", of the ABC crime drama.

The show has been watched by many of its viewers due to the on-screen romance between Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic). However, the series set the couple apart in last week's sequel.

The new plot change in the crime drama made many of its followers furious and they expressed their anger on various social networking sites.

Here are some of the fan reactions:

Once again Castle takes another turn...a turn for the worse. Why are the writers doing this? they're going to lose their fan base. It disappointing the twist and turns last season and now this season.

I officially hate the new direction Castle has taken. Kate has turned into an obsessed zealot and tonight's episode was too ridiculous. Castle was a show where the cops used their intellect and intuition. Tonight was a freaking gun fest. No thank you, your changes are too extreme. frown emoticon.

Tonight's episode was unbelievable!!! What the hell are the writers doing! They can't be serious with this story line. Everyone waited so long to see Castle and Beckett together! I just can't believe it.

While the fans are still scrutinising the writing style of the new showrunners, Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley, the creators have promised them that the new change will have "some really fantastic results".

"We're hoping that the audience sticks around long enough to see next week and realise that this is just the beginning. We're using this to actually put the spark back in, and the stakes back in, which give us the fun and the juice," Hawley told TV Line.

Explaining further about what the fans can expect in the upcoming episode of ABC crime drama, Winter said, "The characters of Castle and Beckett both mean a lot to us, and their relationship means the world to us as well. So we have a real plan for how to guide through this new path, and we really do believe it's going to be something that will be satisfying overall."

Meanwhile, the description for episode 3 indicates that the popular on-screen power couple will be reunited for a new mission.

The official synopsis of "PhDead" read: "When the body of a local college fraternity student is found gruesomely murdered, Castle has to go undercover as a professor in order to gain access to the victim's world. However, he and Beckett soon discover that behind the fun and games of college are some darker secrets the university wants to keep hidden."

So followers of "Castle" can wait until Monday, 5 October, to watch some interesting sequence between the mystery novelist and his ladylove.
