A 45-year-old cyclist died after a speeding police bus allegedly hit him near Gill Road canal bridge on Tuesday morning. The bus was reportedly a part of the security arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit.

The police, however, said that it was still uncertain if it was their bus that caused the accident.

The victim has been identified as Harnek Singh of Gill village. He was hit by the bus at 8 am when he was on his way to work.

Jasbir Singh, Dugri police station assistant sub-inspector, who is the investigating officer on the case said that the police have filed an FIR. He added that there is still uncertainty over which vehicle hit Harnek, while saying that the registration number of the vehicle given to the police was of a tractor.

The victim's family and friends maintain that there were eyewitness accounts, but the police are trying to cover up the matter.

"Onlookers told us that two police buses were going towards Punjab Agricultural University . One of them hit Harnek Singh and ran over his head. It did not even stop after ramming into him,"
Prabhjot Singh, friend of the deceased's son Amandeep Singh, told the Times of India.
