Reliance Jio waged a price war in the telecom industry, forcing incumbent operators to slash their data prices or offer more data at the same price. After a series of new offers from Airtel, Idea and Vodafone in recent days, BSNL, which had also joined the competition, is offering four new Special Tariff Vouchers (STVs).

These new special discounts are being offered on premium data packages as a part of Dussehra and Muharram celebrations across India. Under this scheme, prepaid users can get double data benefit by recharging for the same amount and with a long-term validity of 365 days.

"Four new Data STVs have been launched on festive season on pan India basis with validity of 365 days with double data offer from October 10 to 31 October 2016," the state-owned telecom operator said in a statement.

What are the new data offers?

Pay Rs. 1,498 and get 18GB data instead of 9GB

Pay Rs. 2,798 and get 36GB data instead of 18GB

Pay Rs. 3,998 and get 60GB data instead of 30GB

Pay Rs. 4,498 and get 80GB data instead of 40GB

With these packages, BSNL data plans come close to Jio's tariffs, which will go live on January 1 2017. As per the cheapest STV, per GB price is Rs 84 and the most expensive offer will put the cost of 1GB data down to just Rs. 56.

"BSNL is committed to the benefit of its esteemed customers with utmost reliable and cheaper services," BSNL Board Director (CM) R K Mittal said, according to PTI.
