At least one person has been confirmed dead with reports in the Belgian media of as many as 13 killed following twin explosions at Zaventem airport in Brussels.

Footage from inside the airport terminal shows the aftermath of the blasts. Debris can be seen strewn across the floor, as panicked people rush to get away from the area.

The FCO has given the following advice to British nationals in Brussels: There have been explosions at Zaventum International Airport in Brussels on 22 March. If you are affected by the incident follow the instructions of Belgian security authorities. Please contact your airline for information about flight arrivals and departures to and from Brussels.

The Belgian government has placed the whole of Belgium at threat level 3 – a possible and real threat. You should remain alert and vigilant, especially in places where theres a high concentration of people.
