Mercedes driver Louis Hamilton returned to his position at the top after the final practice session on Saturday morning, ahead of Sunday's British Grand Prix.

The Briton was the fourth fastest in the second practice session on Friday as his teammate Nico Rosberg recorded 0.466 seconds faster than Hamilton.

However, this morning, the defending Formula 1 champion achieved the fastest lap at 1:32.917, ahead of Germany's Rosberg, who recorded 1:33.469.

Mercedes managed to get Rosberg out in the final minutes despite a gearbox oil leak; and even though there was traffic, he managed consecutive laps of 1:33.731s and 1:33.469s to secure the second place.

Ferrari duo Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel stood third and fourth, respectively.

"Had a great #FP3! The car is feeling great today. Let's keep our fingers crossed for #Qualifying! #BritishGP #TeamLH," Hamilton tweeted moments after the end of the practice session.

Rosberg also headed the first session on Friday morning, although Hamilton, who is ahead of Rosberg by 10 points in the drivers' championship standings, was faster on the first runs in the second session on the hard tyre.

Saturday's practice session saw Raikkonen lap past his Ferrari teammate Vettel with a time of 1:33.692. Vettel recorded 1:33.918.

Italian racing team Toro Rosso duo Max Verstappen and Spaniard Carlos Sainz Jr stood fifth and sixth in the third practice session, respectively, as Verstappen slightly edged past his teammate.

Former Ferrari driver Felipe Massa, who joined Williams last year, stood seventh in the practice, slightly ahead of teammate Valtteri Bottas, who stood eighth.

All eyes will be now on who takes the pole position at Silverstone Circuit, England, as the Qualifying race gets underway for Sunday's main race in some moments.

Mercedes looks in a league of their own, ahead of Sunday's race at 13:00 BST, when 140,000 are expected to attend the race.

Qualifying (Saturday) – 1 pm local time (5:30 pm IST, 8 am ET)

Race Day (Sunday) - 1 pm local time (5:30 pm IST, 8 am ET)
