Great Britain has been hit with the coldest night in three years with temperatures dropping as low as -15C.

The Met office has advised people to be alert about snow and ice in northern England, the Midlands, East Anglia, and southern parts of the country, including London.

Reports suggest that temperatures in certain areas might dip to -9C during the next week, which makes them colder than the foothills of Mount Everest.

"It only has to get past -9C and we'll have the coldest night for winter," Met Office operational forecaster Calum MacColl said, according to the Guardian.

Many forecasters also believe that this unusual change in the weather condition will continue for the rest of the season.

The freezing weather has also disrupted transportation and other necessities in the country. Drivers are also asked to pack an emergency pack with food, first aid kit, torch, blankets, warm clothes, a hot drink, and fully-charged mobile phone.
