The BRICS Summit 2012 began on Thursday in Delhi with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh adressing the leaders and delegates from Brazil, Russia China and South Africa.

Presidents of the countries in BRICS group - Dilma Rousseff, Dmitry Medvedev, Hu Jintao and Jacob Zuma - are in India for the 4th BRICS Summit.

Speaking at the innaugural function, the PM of India stressed on the need to speak in one voice on issues like reforms of United Nations Security Council and working together towards revival of economic growth. He also said that BRICS countries should co-operate in fighting terrorism and other threats like piracy in Somalia.

Manmohan Singh also emphasised upon the need to restore stability in Afghanistan and importance of "sustained international commitment" towards the future of the country.

BRICS DEVELOPMENT  BANK

One of the top agendas of the summit is "BRICS Development  Bank" that would fund development projects and infrastructure in developing nations. Manmohan Singh said that they have directed the Finance Ministers of the BRICS countries to examine the proposal and report back at the next Summit.
