An American military chopper went missing on Tuesday while delivering relief materials in the quake-hit Nepal's Charikot area.

The Huey chopper, which had six US Marines and two Nepalese Armymen on board, is suspected to have gone missing when it took off for another quake-affected site after dropping food items at one location, according to an AP report.

The search operation is underway for the helicopter and the Nepalese Army are searching for it on the ground in case it crashed. The Indian helicopter flying in the same location is said to have heard the radio chatter, on which the Marine aircraft's pilot spoke about a possible fuel trouble.

A series of earthquakes, the severest measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale, rattled Nepal on Tuesday afternoon. According to news reports, over 60 people have been killed and more than 1,900 injured in the Himalayan nation, which was devastated by strong earthquakes on April 25, followed by a strong aftershock on April 26 and many more thereafter. Another 17 people were killed in the adjoining Indian states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

According to reports, the first quake hit shook Nepal and several north and east Indian states around 12:35 pm (Indian time). It was followed by six aftershocks, including some really strong ones. Some reports even suggested that the tremors were felt even in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu in south India.

In India, while eight people were killed in Bihar, two others died in Uttar Pradesh, media reports said.

The seismic activity comes days after a 7.9 magnitude earthquake wreaked havoc in Nepal, where over 8,000 people lost their lives and more than 17,000 people injured. Many people were killed in the adjoining states of India, particularly Bihar.

The latest quakes, which are being considered a part of the series of aftershocks of the April 25 earthquake, was severely felt in the national capital Delhi as well as people ran out of their houses and offices to the open area.
